The tough time

So about an hour after he was born I was trying to nurse Ashton and he wanted nothing to do with it. Big red flag. He was making some little grunting noises too. The nurse took him back to the little baby table, and in moments my post-delivery euphoria was shattered by a team in yellow gowns from the NICU examining and taking my baby. He was in respiratory distress.

Alan went with him to the NICU while they finished up with me, and was moved to my room. My nurse told me that they would be bringing Ashton to me shortly. Unfortunately, after that they got his bloodwork back and it was not good, so they decided to admit him to the NICU. There was no way to know right away if he had pneumonia or if there was just a lot of fluid in his lungs that didn't get squeezed out because he delivered so fast, but to be safe he was being treated with IV antibiotics for 7 days.

There aren't a tonne of photos from this time because I was generally a hysterical mess, but here are a few of my sweet prince.
