On my bum
Today was a really beautiful day. It seemed especially nice since we are all finally over this whole sinus/chest/eye infection business (although my right ear is still "popped" and I can't really hear out of it.... took a team of doctors nearly a half an hour to figure out what antibiotic to prescribe for the nursing mother who is allergic to pennicillen :s). We have essentially been quarantined for 2 weeks and were itching to get outside! We hit the park with our friends Jessica, Gillian and Iain.

Freedom!
My little man loves his mommy. I'm truly thrilled about that, however having a baby LITERALLY attached to you for 4 months is a little more than I can handle in the sanity department.
So to that end, yesterday we broke out the Exersaucer. We tried him in it about a month ago and he wasn't quite ready for it, but he is so strong now that we decided to give it another go. HE LOVES IT!!! I finally get a little time without a baby attached to me, and that leaves me a little more time to snuggle my little lady!
Here's Eleda showing Ashton the ropes:

He likes the microphone. I believe he's trying to decide how to get it into his mouth:

The microphone appears to be mocking him:

I'll get you some day, nemesis:

And then today...

He got it!

So I know you all care a TREMENDOUS amount about my kids, but I want to expand my mind and my blog a little, so I'm going to add a little bit to it to keep things interesting. I am going to research and review one meal and wine every week. Heck, I might even throw a movie review in now and then. I will gladly accept any feedback, suggestions, ideas, etc that you have to offer. Until next time, cheers!

Back from the brink
It's been some time since I blogged... our house was hit with a nasty cold, and not only did I not have the strength to lift my camera, no one would have wanted to see any of us! We are recovering now, but it's slow going. The kids were being really cute today, so I thought I would share.

More kiddos
My Mother-in-law hosted a little gathering today for some family members to meet the little man. He was being super cute, so I got down on the floor with him to snap a few shots. Eleda, of course, had to get in on the action as well.

Happy 60th, Mom!
In celebration of my mom's birthday, we had my parents over for dinner. I decided to prepare a lovely "Blue and pear salmon" recipe courtesy of the winter issue of All You Need is Cheese magazine (http://allyouneedischeese.ca).
Recipe serves 8:
2 skinless filets of salmon 1 3/4 lb each
3 slices bacon, crumbled
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, pressed (I prefer to grate them with my rasp over using a press... I also chose to double the garlic for this recipe to stand up a little better with the blue)
2 pears, peeled, cleaned and diced
1/2 cup white wine (I went with Verdiccio)
1/4 cup maple syrup (mmm... Crinklaws...)
1 tbsp chopped fresh savoury or 1 tsp dried savoury (I didn't have any savoury, so I went with a mixture of thyme and corriander)
salt and pepper to taste
2 slices of bread, crumbled
4 oz Canadian blue, sliced
*preheat oven to 375F
*In a skillet over medium-high heat, sautee bacon, onion and garlic. Add pears, wine, maple syrup and savoury. Season generously and let simmer 5 minutes.
*Remove from heat and add bread to absorb liquid.
*On a parchment lined cookie sheet, set one of the salmon filets. garnish with pear preparation, then add blue.
*Cover with second salmon filet and bake 30 minutes. Cut and serve immediately with rice and vegetables.
***Variations - recipe can be prepared in advance and baked at the last minute. For a molder taste, try with Canadian aged gouda, mild or aged cheddar, or slices of brie.
I served ours with brown rice and broccoli slaw with apples and blueberry poppyseed vinaigrette.

Eleda sayin Ahoy, matey with a napkin ring.

Oops...
Seems I forgot my camera at my parents house, so I won't be able to post today's photos until tomorrow. To tide you over, here are some more photos from this weekend.

A Storybook day...
We spent the afternoon at Storybook Gardens for their "Easter Hop Along". I couldn't narrow down a lot of the photos, so this blog entry is VERY pic heavy.
First we saw 3 Peacocks in their full feathered glory. Methinks it's mating season.
